The Bali 4.8 is a 48-foot catamaran that redefines what’s possible in its size class. Conceived by Olivier Poncin and designed by naval architect Xavier Faÿ with interiors from Lasta Design Studio, this model reflects the innovative spirit and signature DNA of Bali catamarans. Built by the CATANA shipyard in France, this 48-footer elegantly blends performance with groundbreaking design. It’s an adaptable sailing catamaran that is just as suited for leisure sailing and charter use as it is for private ownership and longer voyages.
Life aboard the Bali 4.8 centers around open, fluid living spaces that seamlessly connect interior and exterior zones. Its hallmark Open Space layout features a large tilting aft door that merges the salon with the rear cockpit. With a front door that provides direct access to the forward lounge, there’s no need to move along the side decks, which is not only inconvenient but can also be unsafe, especially while underway. Wide sliding windows invite natural airflow and fill the interior with light.
The 4.8 interior salon treats guests to panoramic sea views that make you feel closer to nature and give the impression of a larger room. A true innovation in its class, the Bali 4.8 catamaran offers a 6-cabin, 6-bathroom configuration, which is rare for a 48-footer. With a generous galley, 1,000 liters of freshwater, and 615 liters of fridge and freezer space, this catamaran is built for long stays off the grid.
The Bali 4.8 is built for endurance and smooth sailing and can handle a range of weather conditions. Its structure is molded in three primary sections, with a reinforced seam at the keel for added strength. The hull is constructed from GRP-infused PVC foam sandwich material and protected below the waterline with anti-osmotic vinyl ester resin.
For added durability, the inner half-hulls and main platform are built in a single mold, while the deck combines foam sandwich and reinforced monolithic/plywood elements. Two profiled keels are designed to reduce drag and improve sailing efficiency. Inside, structural bulkheads made from fiberglass and foam contribute to the vessel’s rigidity and long-term resilience.
