Fountaine Pajot 48: The Evolution of the Tanna 47: A Liveaboard Cruising Catamaran

As the successor to the widely popular Tanna 47, the Fountaine Pajot 48 catamaran carries forward everything people loved about its predecessor. Just below the 50-foot mark, the FP 48 hits the sweet spot for both couples and families, offering the space and comfort needed for extended liveaboard cruising while remaining easy to sail and handle with a small crew. Its design evolution mirrors that of the other new models from the Fountaine Pajot range, such as the New 41, New 44, and New 51, and you’ll notice the consistency of style and smart functionality throughout this new addition.

Layout and Specs: Space, Comfort, and Performance in Focus

At 49 feet, the FP 48 is slightly larger than the Tanna 47, which it replaces. The FP 48 specs include a beam of 25.9 feet, a draft of 5.4 feet, and an air draft of 73.2 feet. The sail plan has been boosted by around 10% compared to the previous model, and while the FP 48 carries a bit more weight, its deeper keel and refined hull shape ensure it maintains excellent speed under sail. Standard propulsion comes from twin 45 HP engines, with upgrades to 80 HP available. Both the fuel and water tanks hold 700 liters, making this yacht well-suited for longer cruising adventures.

The redesigned owner’s cabin in the FP 48 layout positions the bed toward the hull windows for sea views. Buyers can choose from multiple layouts, with three or four double cabins, allowing the yacht to serve equally well as a private cruising home or a charter-friendly vessel.

Enhanced Living Spaces for Outdoor Living

The FP 48 has the same sleek hull lines seen on the New 41 and New 44, two of the latest additions to the range. On deck, multiple lounging and social areas make outdoor living a central part of the experience. One highlight is the spacious forward cockpit, featuring a table with integrated storage space for the anchor system. The upper lounge area, inspired by the New 44 but more expansive, offers another inviting social hub. From here, you have a clear view of the solar panels, surrounding you on all sides and expertly built into the design. Owners who want to go fully electric can opt for the ODSea+ system with lithium batteries and pod drives, which is also available. At the stern, the transom features a comfortable aft bench and provides private access to the owner’s cabin, a noticeable design upgrade from previous models.

Interior Living Spaces Designed with Harmony

The cockpit and salon merge into one unified space that feels open and inviting. The FP 48 interior bears a resemblance to the Aura 51; the galley is highly practical with generous storage, featuring the choice of an electric or propane stovetop, and a central island serves as a seamless transition between the cockpit and the salon (a signature feature on the FP catamarans). The salon features a versatile U-shaped settee that can be arranged with either a coffee table for a lounge feel or a dining table for meals. A full-height refrigerator/freezer has now also been added, thanks to customer demand.
